Successful NMO Networking Event on Critical Raw Materials and Supply Chain Resilience

Published on 13 April 2026

On Monday 13 April, the Netherlands Materials Observatory (NMO) organised a networking event in Rijswijk for industry (companies, sectoral and trade organisations), central government and research institutions. The programme focused on strengthening cooperation.

Strengthening Dutch supply chains

The speakers highlighted current and future developments in the field of critical raw materials and supply chains. The substantive contributions offered both a policy and an industrial perspective. For instance, Imane Elfilali, Manager of Industry Policy and Economic Security at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, discussed the role of the Ministry and industrial policy in relation to strategic value chains. From an industry perspective, Conré Oostrom, CEO of Goudsmit Magnetics Group, shared practical experience of Chinese trade restrictions and their consequences for business operations and security of supply.

Strategic issues surrounding security of supply and geopolitical competition were also discussed, with specific attention paid to strengthening the resilience of Dutch supply chains. The programme concluded with an informal reception, providing an opportunity for further networking and exchange between participants from different sectors.

Peter Paul van ’t Veen, programme director at the NMO, described the afternoon as a success.

“The discussion during this event highlighted the importance of a joint approach. Exchange between government, industry and knowledge institutions is essential to take steps towards increasing resilience. By linking policy and practice, a clearer picture of the challenges emerges, followed by the beginnings of solutions to the current vulnerabilities surrounding critical raw materials.”
